Rihanna revealed her third pregnancy, Pharrell Williams donned a jacket adorned with 15,000 pearls, and musician Andre 3000 carried a piano on his back as celebrities celebrated black style and tailoring at the Met's charity gala.
White and black outfits dominated the deep blue carpet adorned with daffodils covering the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Guests arrived shielded by assistants with umbrellas under heavy rain.
Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton and actor Colman Domingo, co-chairs of the gala, were among the first to appear among the stars of sports, music, film, and television.
Domingo wore a royal blue pleated cape cascading from a gold and white frame over his shoulders. He removed the cape to reveal a jewel-adorned jacket in a black and white checkered design, paired with grey trousers. Hamilton opted for an ivory suit with a beret.
The last to arrive was Rihanna, who wore a wide-brimmed black hat and a striped corset fitted to her belly. Her partner, musician A$AP Rocky, had arrived earlier and confirmed that Rihanna was pregnant with the couple's third child.
Meanwhile, former Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris entered the event. She was not seen on the carpet, but the Democratic Party posted a photo of her on social media in a long black and white dress.
Andre 3000 drew attention with one of the most extravagant outfits: a replica of a piano he carried on his back like a backpack.
Williams, musician and creative director of Louis Vuitton's men's line, wore black tuxedo trousers and an ivory jacket decorated with 15,000 pearls.
The Met Gala, which raises funds for the museum's Costume Institute, is known for attracting top-tier celebrities in extravagant outfits. This year, guests were required to dress under the theme "Tailored Just for You," in reference to the "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" exhibition at the museum's Costume Institute, focusing on a sleek black dandy aesthetic.
The theme was chosen before the election of U.S. President Donald Trump, who launched an attack on diversity and inclusion efforts during the early weeks of his second term.
Andrew Bolton, chief curator of the Costume Institute, said that although work began in 2022, "in the current political climate, it resonates in a very different way. Timing is everything."
'Euphoria' actress Sydney Sweeney dazzled in a fitted, shiny black dress, with her hair styled in a bun. Her co-star Zendaya wore a white silk suit with a wide-brimmed hat.
Olympic gymnast Simone Biles stood out in a short, bright blue dress with a white collar. Director Spike Lee wore a black suit with a silver crossbody bag, orange glasses, and an orange New York Knicks cap. Singer Chappell Roan opted for a bright pink.
Among notable accessories, Bad Bunny carried a brown and yellow bowling-style bag, and Tessa Thompson had a fan featuring the image of the late fashion journalist André Leon Talley, whom many cited as an inspiration for their outfits.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, honorary president of the event, could not attend due to a knee injury. "I hate missing a historic event!" James wrote on platform X.
